In English this week the children have been using figurative language to describe monsters inspired by Beowulf, some of the creations have been really vivid. In Maths we have been working on capacity which means mastering number lines, this will continue into the early part of next week. For PE, the children have been developing dances inspired by Wizards and Witches (we the help of some classic 90s dance music). We have also found time to research Anglo-Saxon Britain and design Anglo-Saxon villages. Our class worship was on the theme of courage, the children decorated miniature hearts which are now kept in the classroom, we also developed a class prayer for courage.

In Year 2, we used our measuring skills to make our own fruit punch this week. Our Maths challenge was to make a 1 litre fruit punch using three different ingredients. We had to think about volume, capacity and remember to use addition as well.
Cheers! Fledglings have had a super start to the summer term. We enjoyed our art day last week were we experimented using different drawing tools to create feathers and birds. We also were surprised with a special parcel which had lots of clues to help us solve the mystery of our new book for this term. We unwrapped the layers one by one to reveal different items. We manged to sovle the mystery and worked out it was 'The Lighthouse Keeper's Lunch' by Rhonda and David Armitage.
We have also enjoyed exploring new activities in our garden and taking part in PE lessons! Year 3 have enjoyed a busy start to the term. We have visited Anglo-Saxon sites in Oxford, made Anglo-Saxon shields and immersed ourselves into the story of Beowulf. This picture was taken during a dramatic whole class retelling of the story. No children were eaten.
Kingfishers have got off to an amazing start this term. Our art day on Tuesday produced some amazing art work and the improvement between start and finish was clear to see. Not only did we learn about drawing what we could see, we also explored how we could use different media (such as pencil marks, pastels and charcoal) to achieve different looks and textures, but we also looked at how we could create both 2D and 3D art work. The end result was a kingfisher that I think we can all be proud off. We also used our detective skills to figure what this term's book was going to be about. After playing pass the parcel and receiving items such as a telescope, sandwich, packet of crisps, a cat, a seagull and a lighthouse, we were thrilled to discover that we would be reading, and writing about, The Lighthouse keepers lunch.
Owls became police detectives in English this week. They were challenged to find evidence and write a police report. It was a really exciting start to our learning in English this term!
We have been developing our understanding of coding this week. We have been programming the Micro:bits in order to send messages; just like Curiosity (a Mars rover) sends messages back to Earth.
We also followed instructions to help us steer Curiosity through the harsh Martian terrain. It was a lot of fun! Owls completed their Spring art day with a focus on retro-futurism art to link to their topic around space. They began by exploring a range of existing works of art, commenting on what they liked, disliked and what it made them think and feel. They then used this as inspiration for their own creations. We think they look amazing!
The last fortnight has been a whirlwind of discovery in the Kingfisher's classroom. We've been diving deep into the fascinating world of numbers, specifically those between 10 and 50 and finding out how they are made up of 10s and 1s. But numbers weren't the only things keeping us busy. We embarked on a fitness adventure inspired by out visit to the Cotswold Wildlife Park! Our PE lessons were transformed into a jungle gym as we crab walked, bear crawled and even attempted some graceful(ish) bird poses. The laughter and energy were contagious, and it was a fantastic way to explore movement and coordination. Speaking of inspiration, we were lucky enough to have a visit from a real life champion - Laurence Whiteley, the paralympian rower! Laurence shared his incredible story of determination and perseverance, proving that anything is possible with hard work and a positive attitude. The children were captivated by his stories and left inspired to follow their dreams. Stay tuned for our next adventure - who knows what exciting discoveries await. What a week in year 6! We are only just over two weeks into the term and we have already managed to do lots of amazing learning: a formal letter and a memoir in English, learning about ratio and area and perimeter in maths, discovering facts about space in science and brushing up on their skills in reading.
We have also been developing our skills in cricket. This week, the focus was on batting and considering where we wanted the ball to go based on where the fielding team were placed. Check back for more next week! |
