About our school
St Mary's CE School is a mainstream school which provides for children with a wide range of special educational needs and disabilities including those with:
  • Communication and interaction needs; this includes speech, language and communication difficulties including autistic spectrum conditions
  • Cognition and Learning needs; this includes children who have learning difficulties and specific learning difficulties like dyslexia, dyspraxia and dyscalculia
  • Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs
  • Sensory and/or Physical Needs; this includes children who have visual or hearing needs, or a physical disability that affects their learning
Our aim is to identify areas where children may be under achieving or having learning difficulties at an early stage. We identify those with additional needs using OCC guidance, and inform parents if we think children require additional support.

Where children are identified as needing additional learning or behavioural support, the school adheres to the SEND Code of Practice. We ensure that each child's needs are individually and appropriately catered for, and that any relevant outside agencies are involved in providing guidance and support.

We assess all children regularly and plan for their provision in class and any additional interventions in a smaller group. This is recorded in a Pupil Profile. For those on the SEND register progress is reviewed and outcomes agreed three times in the school year with parents and children.

We aim to work closely with parents and children, respond to any concerns and celebrate achievements. In a small number of cases where there is still a lack of progress, perhaps where there are more complex needs and a range of external agencies the school may apply for an Education Health and Care Plan.

Our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Co-ordinator (SENDCo) is: Ms. Sara Bailey

Ms. Bailey can be contacted through the School Office: 01295263026 or [email protected]

She holds the National Award in Special Educational Needs (Oxford Brookes University, July 2013).

The Governors and staff at St Mary's CE Primary School are committed to meeting the educational needs of all our pupils through the provision of challenging and exciting experiences.

We celebrate their diversities and differences by embracing an inclusive ethos throughout the school. We recognise that quality learning takes place when we motivate pupils, promote their self-esteem and develop the skills and aptitudes they require to enable them to make their way as lifelong learners.

The Governor with SEND responsibility is: Ms Jane Maharry

Ms Maharry can be contacted through the School Office: 01295 263026 or [email protected]
