Cartographers at large in Kookaburra Class!

We have been practising mapping skills as part of our Town and Country project. We started by surveying the school field and making observations of the relative positions of different human and physical features. We then transferred this information onto a picture map which included a compass rose and a key. Then we looked at the differences between picture maps and sketch maps.
We drew sketch maps to show the buildings that make up our school. In PHSE we looked at the official plans of the school so we were able to compare these with the sketch maps we drew. B said “Wow I never knew plans looked like that, mine was actually a bit like this.”

 We have even been practising mapping in English as we mapped out the stories that we are writing. We are writing alternate versions of The Town Mouse and the Country Mouse called The Urban Fox and the Country Fox. We will publish them when they are finished so watch this space!
