This week, we set off a Christmas Hunt around Banbury town, spotting the different symbols and signs of Christmas. We had great fun as you can see from the photos and the children’s behaviour was fantastic. Well done Bluebirds! In Computing, we have continued our learning about creating code and this week, created animations with colliding objects. We learnt the new word COLIIDE and COLLISION and used this in our code. We also practised adding the instructions for timers to our code. We also enjoyed watching the Y5/6 production of Bah’ Humbug on Monday afternoon. In English this week, we have been busy practising for our Class Worship on Monday 16th December, showcasing all of the RE learning within our Keeping Christmas project this term.

Year 3 and 4 visited Crocodiles of the World to learn about the diets of different animals and about predators and prey. It was a brilliant start to our learning. It recapped on learning from Year 2 about carnivores, herbivores and omnivores and introduced lots of new vocabulary. We went to watch Puss in Boots at Chipping Norton Pantomime! It was fantastic. We really liked the singing and the music. Some of us went on a coach for the very first time! It was really really exciting|! We have been learning about democracy, and have been voting on which books we would like Miss Prud’homme to read. We have been using new tools, we found one that looked like a cheese grater and used the internet to find out what it was called. We discovered it was called a Surform and worked very much like a cheese grater for wood! We were interested in exploring materials further and looking at magnetic and non-magnetic objects in the classroom. We sorted them and drew them to show our friends what we had found out. We continued to investigate colour mixing using power paint. We crated our own collaborative piece of artwork this week. There was lots of discussion about colour and shade. We focused on creating our own pulley systems. We wanted to move objects between the trees and decided to experiment with ropes and buckets to see what we could come up with. There was lots of problem solving and language. It was great fun and we were engaged for hours! We extended it by creating a pulley system to move water between the trays. During cooking we made healthy fruit kebabs. There was was lots of colour. We were sensible with the knives and supported each other. We have been looking at the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. We acted it out using the Helicopter Stories approach. We took on the role of Jack, the Giant, a magic bean, the cow, Jack’s mother, a house, a castle and a window! We loved the sewing table and have been making lots purses, sock butterflies, sock rabbits and spider webs. Outside, we made our own basketball hoop and enjoyed challenging ourselves to see how many baskets we could throw before the timer finished. This week, Bluebirds have become Historians! We have been using photos as our primary source to find out about the impact that Nelson Mandela had on children and society in South Africa and also learning about the impact of the work that BEFSA do. In gymnastics,we have practised travelling using different body and also learnt how to perform a forward roll. While we were getting changed for PE, we also watched videos of professional gymnasts to inspire us before our lesson! Wednesday was our WOW day to launch our new project, Keeping Christmas with a focus on RE. Unexpectedly, we received a letter from Owl, one of the characters in our much loved Class Reader series, Meg and Mog. HE was feeling sad as he had never had a birthday party and so we celebrated Owl's birthday with a fun party, joining in with an owl themed Pass the Parcel with the prize being a mouse, of course! Our Wow Day will start to help us draw similarities between our understanding of celebrations nowadays and the celebration of Christ's birthday in religious terms.
This week in Bluebirds, we celebrated the opening of our class library. We can now borrow lots of different books such as stories from familiar settings, traditional tales and poetry. We even have 2 extra special books with dedications from the authors themselves to us Bluebirds! In maths, we have been learning how to divide practically and reminding ourselves of the different language and ways of representing this calculation, such as sharing equally, dividing, groups of etc. In gymnastics this week, we created sequences with all of our jumps, shapes and rolls from the last few weeks put together. We watched each others’ performances and commented on the gymnastic moves which we spotted. As part of our RE and English learning this week, we have begun to retell the Nativity story, thinking carefully about full stops and capital letters with our English Heads and learning the Christmas Story with our RE heads! |
