We have four houses at St Mary’s – each named after a local house that has historical significance to the local area.
All pupils and their families are allocated to colour houses when they enter the school, and they remain in these houses for the time that they attend St Mary’s.

Broughton Castle is a historic moated and fortified manor house located just outside Banbury in Oxfordshire. Built in the 14th century and later enhanced during the Tudor period, it is surrounded by a beautiful water-filled moat and peaceful parkland. The Castle has been home to the Fiennes family for more than 600 years and has played an important role in English history, including during the English Civil War. Today, visitors can explore its elegant rooms, learn about its fascinating past, and enjoy its scenic gardens.

Compton Verney is a national art gallery set within a beautifully landscaped park, located about nine miles from Stratford-upon-Avon. The surrounding parkland was designed by the famous landscape architect Capability Brown and offers lakes, woodland walks, and outdoor sculptures. Today, Compton Verney is a place where visitors of all ages can enjoy art, nature, and hands-on learning activities.

Sulgrave Manor is a historic Tudor and Georgian house built by the direct ancestors of George Washington, the first President of the United States. Located in the Northamptonshire countryside, the manor dates back to the mid-16th century and offers a unique link between British and American history. Visitors can explore its beautifully preserved rooms, learn about the Washington family, and discover how the house changed over time. The gardens, workshops, and educational displays make Sulgrave Manor an engaging place for students to experience life in the past.

Upton House is a 1930s country retreat known for its dramatic terraced gardens and world-renowned art collection. Once the home of the wealthy merchant banker Lord Bearsted, the house was redesigned to showcase his impressive paintings, ceramics, and rare artworks. The gardens are arranged across steep terraces, offering sweeping views, colourful planting, and a large mirror-like pool. Today, visitors can explore the elegant interiors, learn about the family who lived there, and enjoy the stunning outdoor spaces that make Upton House such a memorable place to visit.

Children can earn house points in recognition of their positive behaviour choices or achievement within a lesson.
All pupils work together to earn as many house points as they can for their team. Interhouse competitions are also a way for pupils to earn additional house points e.g. during sports day.
House points are counted by the house captains each week and the whole school is updated on the house point totals during celebration worship. House point systems promote positive behaviour and encourage pupils to challenge and stretch themselves whilst they are at school. The system also supports team work and a healthy sense of competition.
