‘I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go.’ Genesis 28:15
This week we have been developing our fine motor skills by using different tools. We thought about what we would need to do to help ourselves and our friends stay safe. We were ‘fantastic fledglings’, listening carefully, following instructions and looking out for our friends. We discovered that drilling wood is really hard work, but we persevered and were really happy with the results!
We continue to investigate the stencils in the message centre and using the name book to write letters to our friends. We have enjoyed using shapes to make patterns and build models, and have been really excited to see what we can make with the magnetic shapes.

Inside we have enjoyed investigating numbers. We explored dominoes and were very engaged sorting them, counting the dots and matching numbers. We also used scales to weigh ingredients when we made scones. We have been sharing books with each other and discovered the stencils in the message centre. Miss Prud’homme introduced us to window pens and we have had great fun decorating the windows and then washing them for her. We acted out the story of Little Red Riding Hood and really enjoyed dressing up as the characters. We are really proud of how well the children in Fledgling class have settled into school. This week we have been exploring our new classroom, both indoors and out, showing how independent we can be and making new friends. We have been enjoying climbing trees and experimenting capacity in the mud kitchen! We went to watch Puss in Boots at Chipping Norton Pantomime! It was fantastic. We really liked the singing and the music. Some of us went on a coach for the very first time! It was really really exciting|! We have been learning about democracy, and have been voting on which books we would like Miss Prud’homme to read. We have been using new tools, we found one that looked like a cheese grater and used the internet to find out what it was called. We discovered it was called a Surform and worked very much like a cheese grater for wood! We were interested in exploring materials further and looking at magnetic and non-magnetic objects in the classroom. We sorted them and drew them to show our friends what we had found out. We continued to investigate colour mixing using power paint. We crated our own collaborative piece of artwork this week. There was lots of discussion about colour and shade. We focused on creating our own pulley systems. We wanted to move objects between the trees and decided to experiment with ropes and buckets to see what we could come up with. There was lots of problem solving and language. It was great fun and we were engaged for hours! We extended it by creating a pulley system to move water between the trays. During cooking we made healthy fruit kebabs. There was was lots of colour. We were sensible with the knives and supported each other. We have been looking at the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. We acted it out using the Helicopter Stories approach. We took on the role of Jack, the Giant, a magic bean, the cow, Jack’s mother, a house, a castle and a window! We loved the sewing table and have been making lots purses, sock butterflies, sock rabbits and spider webs. Outside, we made our own basketball hoop and enjoyed challenging ourselves to see how many baskets we could throw before the timer finished. |
