This week, we have been very busy. On Monday, we performed our Class Worship to parents, grandparents and friends with everyone enjoying our performance. You can see the photos from this term’s RE project here (hyperlink to powerpoint) which we shared in the Worship. Both Miss Gascoigne and Mrs Thom were so proud of all of the children who had learnt their individual lines, learnt the poem, Keeping Christmas and the song Hey Ewe as well as their confident and loud performance in front of a packed hall. On Tuesday, we enjoyed our Christmas lunch with our homemade Christmas hats and placemats. In the afternoon, we had great fun at our very own Y2 Christmas Party, playing Sleeping Reindeers, Musical reindeer bumps and Santa says! You might want to play these games at home over the holidays. We also discovered some magical footprints that belonged to Father Christmas! He came with a sack full of presents for us and we were so excited to see him. Wednesday was another fun packed day with everyone dressed up, ready for our whole school performance in the Church in the afternoon. We must have been a very funny sight walking through banbury with staff and children dressed as Nativity characters!! We all enjoyed singing our Christmas songs in Church with our family and friends watching us and helping us to say our goodbyes to Mr Tolmie. It has been a fabulous term and we are looking forward to a new year, full of fun and learning in 2020! The children have enjoyed some Christmas games on the Ipads too...have a look at home if you have time. https://www.topmarks.co.uk/christmas/ChristmasGames.aspx

This week, we set off a Christmas Hunt around Banbury town, spotting the different symbols and signs of Christmas. We had great fun as you can see from the photos and the children’s behaviour was fantastic. Well done Bluebirds! In Computing, we have continued our learning about creating code and this week, created animations with colliding objects. We learnt the new word COLIIDE and COLLISION and used this in our code. We also practised adding the instructions for timers to our code. We also enjoyed watching the Y5/6 production of Bah’ Humbug on Monday afternoon. In English this week, we have been busy practising for our Class Worship on Monday 16th December, showcasing all of the RE learning within our Keeping Christmas project this term. This week, Bluebirds have become Historians! We have been using photos as our primary source to find out about the impact that Nelson Mandela had on children and society in South Africa and also learning about the impact of the work that BEFSA do. In gymnastics,we have practised travelling using different body and also learnt how to perform a forward roll. While we were getting changed for PE, we also watched videos of professional gymnasts to inspire us before our lesson! Wednesday was our WOW day to launch our new project, Keeping Christmas with a focus on RE. Unexpectedly, we received a letter from Owl, one of the characters in our much loved Class Reader series, Meg and Mog. HE was feeling sad as he had never had a birthday party and so we celebrated Owl's birthday with a fun party, joining in with an owl themed Pass the Parcel with the prize being a mouse, of course! Our Wow Day will start to help us draw similarities between our understanding of celebrations nowadays and the celebration of Christ's birthday in religious terms.
This week in Bluebirds, we celebrated the opening of our class library. We can now borrow lots of different books such as stories from familiar settings, traditional tales and poetry. We even have 2 extra special books with dedications from the authors themselves to us Bluebirds! In maths, we have been learning how to divide practically and reminding ourselves of the different language and ways of representing this calculation, such as sharing equally, dividing, groups of etc. In gymnastics this week, we created sequences with all of our jumps, shapes and rolls from the last few weeks put together. We watched each others’ performances and commented on the gymnastic moves which we spotted. As part of our RE and English learning this week, we have begun to retell the Nativity story, thinking carefully about full stops and capital letters with our English Heads and learning the Christmas Story with our RE heads! This week we have been practising for our school Harvest performance. We showed our 3 class stories which we wrote this term based on our story book, Handa's Surprise and performed a Harvest poem. We have also revisited some learning from this term and you can see us all singing our song about the 7 continents of the world. In number knowledge this week, we have practised our number bonds, which you can too at home using this website https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button . Click on number bonds to find different levels to play. There is no homework over half term. We hope everyone has a lovely break and look forward to seeing you all soon. This week, we have learnt about Binary Trees in Computing, creating our own physically one in the classroom using our knowledge about materials from Science. We also had an active PE session, teaching us different throwing and catching games. Over this week, we have been learning how to sort questions in Computing using a simple branching database. We have also been writing our own non fiction leaflet linked to our Science learning about materials. A few photos of our English / Outdoor Learning lesson this week, where we re-enacted our own version of the class story, Handa's Surprise. We have already begun to write our own story about the cheeky members of Bluebird class who steal the vegetables. Come in and see how our stories progress over the next few weeks and to see photos of the rest of the class caught sneaking the food away! |
