In year three we are known as the Marvellous Magpies. We love to share and care for our class friends. As a class we strive to make the right learning choices we are working towards collecting enough marbles in the jar to receive a reward. Once we fill our first jar we will get to play heads down thumbs up then we will work towards our next reward of extra play by filling up two jars. We have explored darkness and light, learning about the festival of Diwali. In our project Prey, we visited Crocodiles of the World and discovered all about teeth and food chains. We have been Ancient Egyptian curators, visiting the Ashmolean and making our own museum and still to come is an exploration of pyramids, Pop Art and Creation.
Move It! Spring 2
This term our learning is connected through the project of ‘Move it’. In Science, this will focus on forces - where we will;
compare how things move on different surfaces
notice that some forces need contact between two objects, but magnetic forces can act at a distance
observe how magnets attract or repel each other and attract some materials and not others
compare and group together a variety of everyday materials on the basis of whether they are attracted to a magnet, and identify some magnetic materials
describe magnets as having two poles
predict whether two magnets will attract or repel each other, depending on which poles are facing
Our DT project will look at levers and linkages and understand how simple mechanisms help us in everyday life. We will be designing our own mechanisms incorporating levers and linkages. We will utilise our history, science and DT knowledge in English to explain how Ancient Egyptian made use of their knowledge to build the pyramids.
To help us write our explanation texts we will be researching pyramids using this text.
We will be reading a variety of books that incorporate a portal as part of an adventure story.
